For many pulses, large shares of import, including desi chickpeas, pigeon peas, mung beans, black matpe, and kidney bean, come from Burma. Importers favor Burma because it offers many varieties with qualities similar to those produced in India as well as reasonable prices, low freight rates, and relatively fast delivery.
India is also the largest pulses processor, as pulses exporting nations such as Myanmar, Canada and Australia, do not have adequate pulses processing facility.
